“I reduce the intensity a bit to be able to start refreshed. But I still train every day,” Schmidt explained. “Basically, a typical training week is extremely varied. I do sprints, of course, but also sprint endurance, strength training and strength endurance, tempo runs, and jumps.”

This will be Alica’s second Olympics, following her participation in the German team in Tokyo. Unfortunately, in the last edition, she was left out of the women’s and mixed 4x400m relay events, remaining as a substitute in Japan.

“I didn’t know for a long time that the difference from a world championship is so big. The best in the world come together both times, but at the Olympics, every Olympic sport is present, you live in the same village with the athletes, who all pursue their passion,” she said.

“It was incredibly inspiring at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, and I definitely want to experience that again. Especially this time with spectators!”

“The Olympics only happen every four years, so this year is particularly important. I’ve been constantly working towards this highlight,” Schmidt concluded.
